Katie Geras was looking for a way to share with her students in a real world way what a change of seasons actually looks like since that is not something we see in Texas. So she decided to FaceTime with her brother in Colorado. They compared our weather to what the weather was like in Denver and because the Kinder students had been learning about plants, Katie's brother took them outside to his garden to see the zucchini, melons, lettuce, brussel sprouts, raspberries, and more. They also had a chance to compare leaves in the two locations.
Coincidentally, the class got to meet a visiting friend who happened to be from Durban, South Africa, and was a principal at Victory Christian Academy there. They compared the two areas, discussed the difference between Celsius & Fahrenheit, and talked about the differences in schools!
Such a simple use of technology that reaped huge rewards for Katie and her students. With Face Time or Skype, the possibilites for global communication are endless!
