Guided Reading for 3-5

1. Pits and Berries After guiding participants through a series of examples of pits and cherries, Heather asked participants to think about the pits and cherries in their reading life. 


2. Making Thinking Visible: Participants were asked the question: When was reading joyful/not joyful? Here are a few of the answers. 

Joyful: Self selected books, read aloud, book series
Not Joyful: Time constraints, STARR, difficult texts, reading out loud
The question was asked? "Why are we doing things that don't promote a love of reading?"
non negotiable vs. negotiable - some things aren't going away.
When reading whole group novels, make sure there is authentic purpose in reading it.
