Great Start to 2016-2017 School Year!

I have been trying to steal a moment to get this blog post written, but we have been moving fast and furiously in EISD since early August. Now that I have a moment to breathe, I wanted to share the highlights of this year thus far with you.

Here are my top 5 events of the last 6 weeks or so. Check out the photos below to see some snapshots of these events.

1. Our New Teacher Institute and our EE and District-wide Staff Development were plentiful and well received.
2. EE set up 662 iPads.
3.While I organized the set up of these iPads, it would never have happened without the excellent video developed by Marianna Ricketson that walked students and teachers through the set up process and made it possible for grades 3-5 to work independently to make this happen. In addition, the 4th and 5th Grade students and teachers gave of their time to help the Kinder and First Grade students set up their iPads. All of this collaboration allowed us to be ready to roll with our iPads by the end of the 3rd week of school.
4. We have many new faces on our campus and Kelly VanMeter (our campus Instructional Partner) and I have worked hard to find ways to support these teachers. We have set up meetings to see how they are doing and what we can do for them. I had a meeting with new teachers early on to help them get a start on their websites. We set up their student iPads for them so that they could take that off of their plates. They are a talented and extremely patient group of folks and we are so lucky to have them join our team.
5. We have a new workflow solution on this campus for Grades K-4. It's an app called Showbie and teachers were trained on its use during the PD sessions at the beginning of the year. Many of the teachers are already up and running with this tool (including one Kinder teacher!) and I will be helping the remaining teachers get it set up over the next few weeks. 5th Grade is using Google Classroom and we will be working on implementing that within the next few weeks as well.

What an incredible journey it has been so far. Here's to another great year on our campus!
